Edith can't pretend that the apology isn't warranted, after everything that happened, everything she went through. She's also not going to make too much of it. Besides, he saved her life; that should be apology enough. "I know," she says gently. She doesn't quite have it in her to tell him that he doesn't have to apologize to her — she did, after all, come very close to death, a hazy week spent in the hospital when she showed up here bringing her back from that — but it's more than enough. "And it was soon enough. You saved my life."

He'd died for her, in fact, and for a moment, just one brief instant, a fraction of a second, a chill runs down her spine. His blood will be on your hands, his mother's ghost had said, and in a way, she wasn't wrong.
