"It's fine," Edith assures him, though nothing about this situation really seems to be. As far as asking him to come back with her, though, that just seems logical. Whatever may have happened between them before, and in spite of what's printed on his back, what she already knew, she couldn't leave him to fend for himself with this.
Once they're inside — a fact for which she's visibly relieved — she presses the button for the elevator, hoping that its usual unreliability will mean they're less likely to run into anyone else. Besides, it's easier, she thinks, to keep one's back to a wall that way than to take the stairs.
